Empowering Teen Mothers Through Skills and Opportunity

EmpowerHer is a flagship initiative by Gusii Women Against Violence (GWAVI) designed to support teen mothers in Kenya through vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and psychosocial support.

Many young mothers face school dropout, stigma, and limited access to economic opportunities. This program seeks to break that cycle by equipping them with practical skills that lead to financial independence.

Our Goal

To economically and socially empower teen mothers through market-driven vocational skills training, life skills development, and entrepreneurship support.

Key Objectives

• Train at least 100 teen mothers in vocational skills
• Enhance financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills
• Improve psychosocial wellbeing and confidence
• Support income-generating activities and employment access
• Strengthen community awareness and protection systems

What the Program Offers

• Vocational skills training (tailoring, beauty, crafts, etc.)
• Life skills and psychosocial support sessions
• Entrepreneurship and financial literacy training
• Mentorship and market linkage support
• Starter kits (subject to funding)

Expected Impact

At least 75% of graduates are expected to start income-generating activities, leading to improved household income, reduced vulnerability, and stronger community resilience.
